Would like to purchase a hi-end cassette deck

Look for somethibg mechanical like a leaf switch that detects when the cassette is inserted. Often a row of them to detect chrome/record safety switch etc. Could be dirty, misaligned etc.

It happened to me , the same , three days ago !!
Tape controls blocked on both ( it's double )
After switching on and off and some initial pain , it eventually worked .
It was not in use for about two months .

Coincidence Pico!! I noticed the problem yesterday on both
the decks..

Thanks Mooly, I looked inside the deck, there are several
leaf switches, I rubbed them mildly by hand. The decks are
now working on the first touch. Have to use it often....

That's good.
If they need cleaning soak a bit of paper or thin card in WD40 and pull it through the contacts.

I appologize if this has been suggested as I have not taken the time to read the thread but you might consider getting a HiFi VHS machine you can buy then for about $100.00 or less and they have much larger and better heads than you will find on any available casset decks.
