X Cans V2 as buffer amp

My x cans v2 makes a very nice line level buffer amp. However, the level of background hiss is too high with it connected like this. Would it be possible to switch a gain stage in/out (output stage for example), and if so, how?

I don't want to use a resistor attenuator to reduce gain at the output.
