The CD mechanisms in those will be old (even if they were replaced at some point, likely not available as new for many years, especially for the Alpine). If you are going to spend near $1000, ask for a video showing the owner inserting a disc and stepping through the various tracks. This should be done with a burned disc if you plan to use them.
The disc should be read very quickly and it should step through the various tracks forward and backward very quickly. The fast-forward/back should work smoothly as well.
