I do that with a Squeezebox Touch. I don't know the Raspberry systems, but would guess that it's possible - as long as the Raspberry is configured to communicate via wired LAN and wireless LAN. For the Touch, you menu select the connection to the server (wired or whatever wireless channels are available). In my case wireless control is done through with the iPhone app iPeng. There are a number of similar apps for wireless control of the Raspberry.

I'm no expert on network systems. The information to do what you want should be found in the Wiki on the Vortexbox site. At some point your server has to have wireless capability to set up as you diagram shows.
