Why do tubes of various brands sound differently?

To me the phase shift indication is a bit confusing. For those who feel the same, here is the phase shift angle of the harmonic signal in degrees:

Sin + = 0°
Sin - = +180°
Cos + = +90°
Cos - = +270°

Which JJ was it ? They make 3 types of 12ax7 ( ECC83S, ECC803, ECC83MG ) ?

All 4 tubes were EEC83S. So JJ makes 3 style of tubes that will sub for 12AX7?

I wonder if they are designed differently or do they just select the better ones and give them a pricier label.

Dan, the synth is very cool - thanks! It's interesting to play with different fundamentals and the different waveforms. On sine waves, anything above H3 sounds like a distinctly different tone to me. But that's frequency dependent. Go down an octave or 2 from 440 and H3 isn't distinct as a separate tone.

The violin is good to tinker with. Even as little H10 as there is, change it and it very much changes the timbre of the tone.

They are all different, 2 short plates and one longplate. See eurotubes.com

more complicate and delicates are the structure and greater will have differences.
These is common characteristics any hi-fi components.
more precise is your measurement equipment and will you are capable to see the differences.

Is your amp PP with one tube doing both channel's amplifications and the other for inverters or is each tube dedicated to just one channel for both jobs?

Wheewww! I see. With that being a 2 stage driver it's not a suprise you got a different, better, result from another 12AU7. Good thing you tried that.

Surprisingly different change.

I was mostly changing them because I wanted a higher quality (aka reliable) tube.

only 9th harmonic, and no phase shift (yet)
in future i can update it , if there is demand
