How do you go about cleaning off the excess lacquer? Every time I try, I manage to wipe the whole thing clean and have to start again

Found this Sharpie white paint in home improvement stores.
It's not as durable/good as casewell but cheap fun to play with.
This was my first stab at it. Could do much better I'm sure on second try.
All my chems are at lab so wiped off excess with borrowed fingernail polish remover.
