I was told that the out-feed end of the fence should be several thousandths wide of parallel, to avoid any tendency to bind the work between the fence and blade. (That stalls the blade if you're lucky; kicks back the work or breaks the blade if you're not.)

I find dead parallel works best with a high quality blade (Forrest) and a well fit spliiter - no kickback whatsoever. Of course the fence is equipped with the one way wheel Board Buddies just in case, but the stock feeds like butter and there is no binding at all. YMMV!
