Here are my sealed sims. The EL70 can be a bass monster in the right enclosure, good to the 40s. Some who have built big twin EL70 boxes have packed away their subwoofers.

Hi,

Bass extension and bass volume capabilities are two very different things.
I quite agree that bass extension/capability is not very related to quality.

I also agree such drivers can produce more than adequate bass for some
people, for some people surprisingly more than adequate, but nevertheless,
such small drivers cannot do really good loud bass, it is simply impossible.

rgds, sreten.

Proper 40Hz ? not a chance ....

i can testify, 15 years ago, a friend showed me some towers he has just purchased, 3 or 4" drivers, they got REALLY LOW, even i, a hardened 'bass head' that has had up to 2500 wrms in my car (check my screen name) was impressed.

im sure modern smaller drivers and box designs do it better.
