I drink water. You know? The stuff the Sons Of The Pioneers sang about!

Johnny Appleseed was a PIONEER in many respects, born in 1774 and spending much of his life in Western NY, PA, OH, IN and IL even before the Erie or Ohio canals. He planted so many orchards so as to have a lot of apples for hard cider! (He also fathered 2 and ten score children.)

OTOH, I believe one of the Irish-American "teetotaling" groups refer to themselves as "the Pioneers"

One interesting thing I read about there middle ages is that the serfs got up early and worked in the fields, then knocked off at noon for the day to have a couple brews and de-louse each other. I think that there wasn't much incentive to work hard.

Of course they'd starve occasionally too I suppose.

5 Gal spring water, 6lb amber malt extract, 2lb imperial brown sugar,
8oz North Dallas Organic Honey, 2 Liter Dr. Pepper. German Spalt 4.6%,
2oz 60min, 1oz 15Min, 1oz 5min. Safale US05 yeast (only after wort cools
below 80F)

Add honey at 5min (near end of boil). But don't boil DrPepper (already sterile).
Use DP to top off 5gal after you siphon 4.5 gal (5 minus muck) to a secondary
fermeter (like back into the Ozarka bottle). DP Carbonation and sugar quickly
drive out any unwanted air.
