I hate to be the bearer of bad news, Bonsai, but I suspect your son's interest in strong Beer is to be discouraged. :D

Personally I always seek VALUE!

Whether a horse in the Prix de l'arc de Triomphe:

Or more mundanely, wines.

Two particular bargains picked up tonight. A Red Bordeaux and a White Cotes de Gascogne.

Iceing on the cake was I got the Cotes de Gascogne for £4.78!

But frankly, it is PLONK.

I am fancying horses LOVE and MOJO STAR as each way bets on Sunday in the Prix. But am watching TRUESHAN too in a lesser but rich race. :)

@Steve they’re actually all craft beers. Small breweries that have carved a niche out selling short runs of beer. I’ve had a few that were seriously good. Unfortunately/fortunately they are not cheap and that’s the feedback loop that prevents him from overindulging. A typical can of craft beer at 8-12 % ABC runs at £9 to £12 and he had one (17% ABV) that cost £18.

@Bonsai. Good beer book. I am glad your son keeps a record of his boozing explorations. :D

More of the same £6 Bordeaux for me tonight. This is Paris racing weekend.

TRUESHAN turned out to be the horse star I predicted here!

Trueshan is a superstar stayer! Group 1 Cadran glory goes to Alan King at ParisLongchamp - YouTube

But my number one rule of betting is never bet on favourites. 11-10 seemed a waste of time to me. Paris was a bog after the rain. Quite fancied my chances on last year's boggy winner. I was on the grey PRINCESS ZOE at 4-1. Easy to picjk your horse out too. £2!

Ah well. Good race. Poor ol' STRADIVARIUS tried hard in conditions that hardly suited his fleet of foot.

Onto the Arc tomorrow. A total of £4 each way bets shared between long odds MOJO STAR and LOVE. Decent horses.
