Are you sure that the CS8416 needs a uP to be controlled?
I see for example that it is used in RAKK DAC
http://www.raleighaudio.com/rakk_dac_2.htm
and don't think there is a uP onboard.
Moreover the CS8416 is considerably less expensive than the CS8414.
On Farnell for example the CS8414 is priced 14,24 EUR and the CS8416 costs 6,47 EUR
I have no experience with the 8416.
I rode in the datasheet that it can run alone. If the price is so low, then go!!!
I don't think that the input is better that the 8414, but almost equivalent .

I have found the cause of the problem (thin midrange). It was the wiring (I used p2p).
I have tried two other types of wire for the analog section:
CAT6: sounded very strong, good midrange BUT overall very hard
Another thick copper wire seems to be better BUT too bright it added too much sibilance to human voices.
Now I am searching for some good wire to change. This will not be easy here.
