This might be the solution I've been looking for, due to it's elegant simplicity.

2 x 8"/10" Seas / Scanspeak woofers & the JXR6 in an MTM configuration, crossing over at about 500Hz. Virtually the full bandwidth covered! Passive or active would be easy. Efficiency 88dB. What am I overlooking here?

Nothing is that you are overlooking. Hobby Hi-Fi (Germany) tested it and said its almost blameless as a unit. Crossing circa 500Hz is much better than circa 2000 and keeps away from complimentary alu woofers ringing region. I will make a project in the near future to see how it performs. I dont know about its power response in the highs, maybe it will sound sweeter than real.
