3 interested so far
Thanks Maravedis,
Three of us so far:
I am in for 6 sheets.
Maravedis ?? sheets.
Build me something I think is in for 2 sheets?
The average MOQ of around 40 to 50 sheets depending on sheet thickness, type of ply construction and manufacturer.
So I guess about 15 members will be needed in total?
Cheers
Derek.

Van hire!
Hi Paul,
Yes van hire and a day out might be the easiest way to collect full sheets.
The lacquer would make cutting and assembly more difficult, but a good high speed CNC can clean cut pre lacquered sheets without any problems.
The lacquer is only on the top face so glue joints wont be affected.
Even unfinished the bamboo looks the business so I am happy either way.
Try to get the best price on delivery from UK sea port to Cambridge...It has to be a specialist timber service as the pallet is heavy!

Lacquer or bees wax?
" When producing the bamboo boards, Quali-Fi uses in their hiQ cabinets, the bamboo poles are split into strips, hardened, carbonized and laminated. The result of the process is a material that is incredible non-resonating, damping resonances far more efficiently than the materials normally used in speaker cabinets.
The material also has a wonderful warm glow enhanced with bees wax. "

Hi Derek,
Yes two sheets ...
Was also thinking, with a pre-lacquered finish we'd still have to finish any exposed cut edges. Happy to go with unfinished surface option. Oil, wax, shellac, acrylic lacquer, cellulose lacquer etc, all most to many options to choose from.
Had a good look at the Quali-Fi range of speakers a few weeks ago when I was trying to find a source for the Mark Audio Alpair 10p. They do look rather nice

Hi Paul,
Yes, you are probably right, unfinished will be easier for most builds.
Will price for unfinished, that is also a level playing field for pricing against UK retail suppliers, ie unless I can get a good 20% to 30% below that its not worth doing....Half price would be the ideal goal!
Cheers

3 layer - stranded+ vertical + stranded
Hi Guys,
I think I have found a good compromise on price/ weight/ thickness and best potential acoustic performance.
Spec:
Sheet length 2,400mm, width 1,200mm.
15mm thickness.
Natural sanded finish, no lacquer or varnish.
Triple layer construction, top and bottom layer stranded and middle layer vertical, see dark brown sample on top of the lighter sample.
Available in natural light colour or darker brown " Carbonised finish.( Same price)
This would cost £195 per sheet including VAT delivered to joiners in Cambridge.
Sheets can be cut into halves / quarters ( £9 or £14 respectively) for easier lower cost delivery to your address or accurately CNC'd to your own cabinet drawings so all you do is assemble / glue / screw your own cabinets.
This cost would vary depending on complexity, but easily lower cost than Wilmslow Audio!
So far so good, all we need is to spread the word and with 10 sheets sold so far try to get buyers for the remaining 40 sheets...!!
Cheers
Derek.

Looking very good and IMO an excellent price The samples look to have similar/same construction to most of the bamboo ply I've seen used here...
re colour; does the order have to be all of the same colour or can we mix the order? 1 light & 1 dark would be perfect for me, dark if all need to be the same... Again, happy to go with the group decision on this.

Possible to mis colours?
Hi Paul,
Thanks, I am also pretty happy with the deal and looking forward to building up some cabinets.
Also possibly racks, shelves, speaker plynths, speaker stands...lots of ideas on how to use the off cuts!
I will ask about mixing the light and dark finish's, it should be no problem but they will try and squeeze out a few more $ no doubt!
Will be worth it though as it will double the attraction of the GB as some guys like dark some like light finish.
I am just waiting on conformation of the insurance costs against loss or damage in transit.
Cheers

Bamboo Plywood group buy
Hiya,
I am still keen and have all the sources and shipping on standby but the MOQ is so high I need about another 10 guys to buy 1 or 2 sheets each to make it all viable.
If the demand is there I will try starting a new GB thread as I now have some good photographs and detailed spec.
Cheers

Did anything come of this?
I'm interested in some bamboo ply for a speaker project, the best I've found so far is this;

That looks like it has horizontal outer layers which is the lower grade. Vertical grain is better and stranded is the best.
dave
The panel I linked to says its high-density, which their website 'how its made' page;
https://www.mosobamboosurfaces.co.uk/hows-its-made/
says is stranded so I assume the picture is just illustrative as similar pictures seem to be used for most of their products?
Ray
… it's high-density ...says is stranded
You should be good then. Stranded is certainly dense. Dense is not necessarily a good attribute, but it is also very stiff which is the reason it is the best.
