Following on from this old thread, I have a NAD 3020 in for repair which makes the most god-awful noise: tracking down stuff like that is time consuming - is it worth it? The owner thinks so! BUT, it needs a new front panel from being dropped (it was loved that much!). Anyone got one you can spare for cash?? I have recently rebuilt my old Practical Electronics 'Orion' with various upgrades - that thing has such presence it's almost scary. PS I HATE 2N3055/2955's: use MJ15024/25's, they're tough as old boots, but I sing in praise of simple Lateral Mosfet amps. So there.

"makes the most god-awful noise"
it's not a good reference.
the 3020 can make all kinds of noises and in several different conitions.
be more specific please.
moreover, the 3020 almost all need a complete recap
because in most cases, you will not get the "best" of this amp without going through this step.
