transistor help please

Hi All.
What can I use to replace a Sanken 2S083 transistor. I have an Akai AA-5000 amp and need to replace transistors, on the output boards one board has Sanken 2S083 transistors and the other board has 2N3055 transistors, would it be OK to put 2N3055 on both boards.

2S083?
Usually they go 2SA or 2SB or 2SC or 2SD before the number, have you read it correctly?

In the early days TI used to use 2Sxxx to identify transistors.
And they were early silicon devices.

Ok, fair enough, but then he did say Sanken.
