TO-3 or TO-247?

I would try the TO-3BPL case, otherwise known as the TO-264. (If you're not doing MOSFETs.) On Semiconductor (formerly Motorola) makes an NPN-PNP Complimentary bi-polar pair under the part numners MJL1302A and MJL2381A. Both have a 200Vce breakdown, and an Hfe of ~45, with an Ft of 30MHz. SWEET!:D

--TO-3 or TO-247?

What is a good rule of thumb
for determining how many TO-3's
you need vs. TO-247 when paralleling
output stages.

Example,

suppose a design calls for 8
TO-247 pa

You'd have to do a SOA analysis, TO247 transistors with teh same size die a TO3 will be derated more, and the SOA will vary too much between different types of devices to generalize.
