TL072 opamp replacement

Is it possible to replace the NE5532 with OPA1612 in my preamp?
Yes, but the OPA1612 is SOIC-only, so it will need a SOIC-to-DIP adapter. Not a big deal, just a little soldering. The OPA 1612 ( a bi-polar device) is an EXCELLENT choice for low-impedance sources (microphone, phono cartridge, most line-level applications). But for GUITAR usage (high source impedance), the OPA1642 (also SOIC-only) is the better choice--it's an FET and will have lower noise; also FETs usually sound better to most guitarists.
