I am assuming most countries play a lot of their local musicians and that many grew up on it and still listen to it today. Canada has what is called Cancon, meaning Canadian content. Our licensed radio stations are required to have a certain percentage of Canadian music and to this day, although other may disagree, I think it is good for the local musicians and good for the people too. Maybe we are just lucky but along with a whole ****load of diy'ers, we have some great musicians too.

How on earth do you do those complicated design calculations?

I think it's probably my approach to learning that helps me in certain ways, more than anything else. By realistic standards I'm terrible at math for someone doing this sort of thing. Then again, I've seen many people who can do crazy math stuff but can't figure out what meaning it has for the circuits they're trying to use it on, or how to use it to improve not just the circuit, but the topology. It's all about meaning, math is just another tool.
