It's all about art & the power of music, one could easily argue that the movie connection has more a powerful musical theme than obesity and other recent subjects.
But I agree with you about TV, it's a lowly art, that I purged from my life in the 80s;-), but to a life without movies, is a life not worth living. And music plays a major role in that, as I don't listen to radio or any other way to hear new music, so movies have been the only way for me to learn about new music.

Nice to know i'm not the only one that detests tv,haven't watched a programme for about 12 years now .
I do enjoy movies though and have Netflix via my games console and buy the occasional dvd .
I get treated like i'm a freak by many people when i tell them i don't watch tv but when many ' news ' papers /programmes prioritize what's happening in the latest soap or 'reality' programme ahead of world changing events i have to ask "who is the real freak?".

I would claim that film conections can quite easily destroy a bit of music, especially classical music, stealing the ambiguity and self visualizations potential that great works can conjure up, and forever having the image of a dithering rodent imparing the appreciation of "L'apprenti sorcier" from Paul Dukas, or the compelling urge to call out "Hi-ho Silver, away" when watching or listening to Gioacchino Rossini's "William Tell".
At the same time, quite often a piece of "Music" will be played on the radio that is so easy to spot as a film composition, but is so lacking in real quality, that I wounder why it is being aired. Maybe if one is in possession of the prefabricated imagery, it might by half-way tolerable.
I'm not saying all film music is execrable, but it seems a lot of it is.
