A term coined in the sixties that combines the worlds of Jazz, rock, classical and theatrical. Groups like Yes, Genesis, Moody Blues, ELP, ELO, David Bowie, Beatles, that sort of thing. Something beyond the standard 4/4 time, often telling a story other than 'love' and many times released as theme albums.

Have a listen to Genesis 'Ripples' and you'll get a good idea. It's a long song so be patient. That whole album is the epitome of art rock.
