edit: Well OK, it looks like Paper Lace has it on their Greatest Hits album, but "Bo Donaldson & the Heywoods shot to prominence in 1974 with "Billy, Don't Be a Hero." Sales that topped three million copies brought the group a gold record. The single spent two weeks in the top spot on the charts."

I don't think I've heard the song since 1974. I kinda liked it back then. I'd give it a spin for nostalgia's sake. It's "cotton candy music" - sweet, but very little substance.
