This one really stumped me until I remembered Bill Nelson's fascination with a certain French director.

whew!

Good point ;)! A classic, one of the best pictures of all times.
Best regards!

I can't understand why so many people consider this film "a classic," it has truly one of the most absurd plotlines portrayed with emotionally incongruous performances from the actors, I wonder if this was deliberate on the part of the director? I have a friend who is a film critic who shares my incomprehension about this being considered to be a classic film. I

Still, I guess there must be something in it that escapes my comprehension for so many to speak so highly of it!

I am open to suggestions about what that might be!

Best Regards.

Your friend must plough a very lonely furrow as a film critic.
The British Film Institute ranked it as the 8th best British film of the 20th century. It influenced many other directors from Soderbergh and Danny Boyle via Cronenberg to Steven Spielberg.

I suspect there is something you and your friend are missing.

If we agree with the rumors that it's about Warren Beatty. I think she confirmed it after a charity auction, but I don't care to research it. Let's move along.

In that vein...

Songs that are clearly directed at / written about a person and painting an unflattering picture and/or expressing anger.
