A "jitney" is a small homemade powerless and steerable (sometimes) wheeled vehicle we made as kids to ride down hill on a dead end street. At least that's what we called them. We used to have jitney races with them, so smooth operation was a plus. Kids today don't do this anymore. They're too busy playing with their effing cell phones to be mechanically creative.

I did wonder what a jitney was , according to google a jitney is a makeshift form of public transport and in some places an illegal taxi service where the driver is often paid with drugs or sexual favours.

I spent many hours as a kid building ' jitneys ' or Go - Karts as we call them here , forever on the look out for 16 inch ' rims ' from old prams :)
My favourite build was one i made with the normal 2 front wheels and ' hi tech ' rope steering but instead of back wheels i used a single centrally mounted roller skate and a couple of small ' floating ' castors on the sides for stability round corners , won a lot of races with that one.
We used to organize races in the village where i lived and up-to 20 kids would turn up .
You haven't experienced fear until you find yourself hurtling down a 1 in 4 hill on a plank of wood with only the soles of your shoes for brakes !!
I 've still got some footage on super 8 somewhere in the attic of ' events ' must get it transferred one day.
As stated kids today just don't do this kind of stuff anymore , unless its got a screen , runs off of batteries and is linked to social media they're not interested.
Aren't they called soap karts in the States ?
