Was just looking at that driver the other day. Thought about order a pair of them for my home subwoofers but also then using them for the TH18. Have to wait for my other FP order to come through and then possibly order some 18's.Has anyone tried a Faital Pro 18HP1030 (4 ohm) with this sub?
sims ok ,identical to 1020-8
My Akabak sim of the Faital Pro 18HP1030 (4ohm) using Tundra's script seems to have a mild broad hump near 90Hz. I wonder if this is something that can be managed with a driver cone volume filler plug in the throat chamber?
Here is a groundplane (2pi) SPL at xmax driven with 66 volts and -12dB HPF at 32.5Hz:
Here is same sim at mic height 60in above the groundplane:

xrk, just for *****, you mind posting a graph of the 18 sound 9601 8 ohm vs that faital pro?
The 1070 is also a beast.
I didnt even consider the 1030 because of its moderatly high qts. but I *do* have one on hand I could grab for testing.... although I'm sure the bolt holes dont line up with the 18 sound.

Comparo at xmax for each or at same drive voltage? I think the drive voltage is the interesting one. That would be great if you could plop a 1030 in and measure it.
Edit: Ok, here is comparo at same drive voltage of 66 volts for both drivers. The 18LW2400-8 has way more displacement to go, but will require more volts to get there.
SPL vs Freq at 60in mic position from floor:
Cone displacement at 66 volts and -12dB/oct HPF at 32.5Hz:
I think the Faital Pro 18HP1030 actually has deeper bass extension...
In my experience, there is often a sag at 80Hz due to room modes and the 18HP1030 may just naturally compensate for this as it has 126dB vs the 18LW2400's 122.5dB at 90Hz. The -3dB point on the 18HP1030 is 36Hz vs 38Hz for the 18LW2400 based on 50Hz reference SPL.

not tha 18lw2400. the 18nlw9601 (dunno if you just had a typo on the driver name).
Sorry, misread that. Here is the 18NLW9601-8ohm (could find TS params for 4ohm version):
The 18HP1030 seems to kick butt at the same voltage.
However, if you pump 106 volts into the 18NLW9601 to reach xmax of 14mm you can beat the 18HP1030:

Is this the 4 ohm faital?
I can give you specs for 4 ohm 18 sound , (they seem favorable with 37hz fs) but there is an 80 day lead time to get them in the us lol
Ok, here is the sim with 4ohm Faital (black) and 4ohm 18Sound (red)...
It is close at max drive voltage of 66 volts for Faital, maybe the Faital is better slightly (flatter and more punch around 40Hz):
However, the 18Sound can take 89volts to hit 14mm xmax with a -12dB/oct HPF at 34.5Hz:
With a corresponding max SPL at 89volts of 124dB at 40Hz:
The Faital can still take the 14mm excursion, it is just beyond its linear xmax, but still far from damage. That is nearly 2kW so that can not be sustained thermal for the Faital which can hit 125dB at 40Hz, and is an all around flatter response.

I will tell you right now the faital can absolutely not take 14mm.
I have the 18" in a bass reflex, and i have 2 of the 15s (same motor) in tapped horns.
the 15s start to get realll noisy in th at less than 20mm peak to peak (10mm of excursion). I have not brought the bass reflex past 20mm peak to peak either but there is slight noticable distortion as it approaches this level.

Someone mentioned the Faital Pro drivers are built with technology that suffers greater power compression than modern drivers like B&C and 18 Sound. That and the QTS looks a bit high for a TH.
A Qts of 0.30 is not too high for a TH as you can see from the sims above (no worse than the 18Sound) and I have had good success with the 12in Faital 1030 - a great combination of high sensitivity and decent xmax.
Ah yes I was looking at the 8 ohm version.

xrk the 1030hp 4 ohm has .32 qts.
there is nothing about the faital that leads me to believe it has insufficient cooling. it has *large* vc vents, and a large pole piece vent. its a serious driver.
Will you get a chance to try out the Faital in your TH-18?
Hmm... well, the cab that I built with the faital is the 8 ohm, and its currently "permanently" installed in a venue.
I could likely swing by there and "borrow" the driver for the day, or for "routine maintenance" lol... but unless the bolt holes line up... I'm hesitant to install them in my th18.
its unlikely I'll get a chance to take any meaningful measurements, bcause I dont have a suitable place to do it (though I do have a crap mic apex mic, and smaart v7).
