Hi,

With tubes the W designator stand for "ruggedized".
So this tube is mechanically reinforced to make it less prone to shock and such.
These were often the types used by the military.

Some types also had designators such as WA,WB,WC indicating further improvements in this field.
e.g. 6080,6080WA,6080WB,6080WC.

Another designator often found on NOS tubes is JAN which stands for Joined Army and Navy.
