I see that Srajan has added a postscript talking about the phase thing:

You'll soon know first hand, lucky boy.
Listen before and after Slivovitz for compare and contrast.
...after shlivovitcz there is no contrast...just angels singing....in tune .. out of tune ... who cares....
Using degeneration for SIT is a "crime". It is the only class of active
devices (together with triodes) that can provide low output impedance
(of a few Ohm) in CS configuration without any FB and a gain >1 (related
to mu).
Degenerating SIT (as well as triode) will increase its output impedance,
thus eliminating its main advantage in comparison with the other active
devices.

I was talking about the "source resistor".

S2 Sounds like tubes
Well, my system is in a bit of disarray right now, and it is hard to mark a detailed observation of the sound of the S2. The initial brush with it is that it sounds like a great tube amplifier, with a bit more speed and detail. My ears say tubes, and the amount of heat it generates says tubes. This thing cooks!
More later.

Sorry Zen, but you appear to be wrong. Popped the hood and found this. Looks like a GM70 to me.
