Cheers

Excellent post Felipe, many thanks from me:)

I've just got myself a Dyanavector Karat MC which is old, but I'm pretty sure it's been re-tipped at some point, and I got it very cheaply. It sounds a lot better than my Ortofon MM, and now I need a new phono stage.

I plan to build this one http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/analogue-source/129126-simplistic-njfet-riaa-307.html#post2090662 as I still have the labeled and matched JFets.

I'll try to catch up with the thread during my spare time, but unfortunately I don't have much of that lately, so can anyone tell me the most recommended caps for the RIAA filter are please?

Thanks for the great thread Salas.

Lee.

I've just tweaked the resistors on my original board to the values shown in the pdf file hosted earlier in the thread. I also have a shuntreg built on veroboard which has been untested for a couple of years, so hopefully I can have a listen later today.

Ricardo, are you still following this thread?

LMC Pre Pre

With LMC carts the best universal solution is a pre stage feeding a 47K MM phono input IMHO. You can integrate it on same PCB or not. It can even be a general pre pre unit. By that you get 20dB on top of a 40-45dB MM phono with better input equivalent noise. And you can have LMC & MM/HiMC inputs versatility. This one has a local capacitance multiplier filter and own reg so to try keep its noise down to the abilities of its signal Jfets. No different noise spec than 4X Jfet input LMC units with 10R source resistor per Jfet.;)

That one is the recommended MM phono to feed from the above LMC stage for your 0.2mV Karat.

Wow, thank you Salas, I was thinking maybe that would be the best way to go.

Do you have experience with MC step-up transformers at all? I've read nothing but good things about the decent ones, but I don't think many people have tried a really good, low noise active stage and compared them.

I'd best go and get a stack of veroboard now then:)

Thanks,

Lee.

1. Which version will have lower noise and better sound, your 60-63dB version, or your 36-46dB version + your pre-pre?
2. Wouldn't your pre-pre benefit from your Shunt Reg.?
3. Is there a benefit in adding capacitance multiplier after a Shunt Reg.?
