i have a set of PE BR-1S (yes shielded), i did the murphyblaster crossover upgrade....
i just ordered a set of Silver Flute 6.5" 8 ohm speakers....
i am looking to swap out the Dayton DC-160S-8 with the silver flutes.....
keeping the Dayton DC28F-8 tweeter......
any comments on this combination?
I'm putting them in the original BR-1 enclosure
i also have a homebuilt Decware Deathbox II 10" sub in between the BR-1s's.
anyone else think that the BR-1's are mid -fi at best???
i am hoping the SF 6.5's will be more natural midrange....
it seems the BR-1's just like to be played loud with my Adcom 535II
they sure don't sound like my Fulton Tempo's ....
anyone else tried to improve the sound of the BR-1S ????

I haven't but I'd like to learn more. Do you have some info or a link to the BR-1S mod?
Thanks,
Mike
if you google "murphyblaster" (murphyblasterproductions) the first hit will take you to the BR-1 mods...among many others....
this is a start.....
there are 2 diffenent xovers, one for BR-1 and one for BR-1S (shielded)
i did the BR-1S crossover, i never even listemed to the stock BR-1S crossover

okay
the BR-1S now has the Silver Flute 8 ohm woofer installed.
i used a Zobel network consisting of a 9 ohm resistor and an 11 uF cap.
the lowpass filter is a .33 mH coil...
the highpass filter is an 8.2 uF cap.
the sound is outstanding, it BLOWS AWAY the original BR-1S.....
all i can say is the SF woofer is outstanding.....
i hope this helps some folks out there.

well the xover was not quite right....
i changed it to 2725 hz 6db
hp = 10.2 uF
lp = .5 mH
i am also ordering the seas 27TDFC tweeter to replace the dayton.
(the xover will change again)
also the Zobel network will be changed to 11 ohms + 12uF
i have been following the http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/155611-double-chamber-reflex-silver-flute-w17rc-seas-17tdfc.html thread for some of these values....
it has been quite helpful.
