And granted, this is a private forum, and the owner has the Liberty to hold up his thumb, or turn it down. As owner he/she can do that. But just as our society recognized innocence until proven of guilt, circumstantial evidence is just that.
That's why reputation of Chinese power transformers is so bad: they sometines catch in fire, but more often generate excessive hum and heat. Be the first who offer right transformers, is it bad?
It's 4:00 AM here and I'm still work on it. I called almost everybody I could in Siliconray, EzPCB and Dealextreme to find out what they've done. I don't want to make excuse, or explain one more word. Whoever did it it's Siliconray's mistake. I just want to know who did this and stop them. I apologize to SY and everybody here. Well let me get on my 'soapbox' and bloviate a little. This entire thing is most unfortunate, because SiliconRoy was close to being accepted as an untainted vendor. Now, no matter what the real truth happens to be, this entire fiasco will cost him most of his credibility. And without doubt this incident will spread to other forums. Members here tend to also be members of other forums, and news travels quickly.
But like 'kenpeter has stated above, there is more than just the issue of 'SockPuppets' and banning all who may or may not be associated. So far, to the best of my knowledge anyway, Roy has been forthcoming and helpful concerning questions on his offered kits. I have no complaints on that score.
And having the same 'IP' address "does not a guilty party make". It just means that the guilty parties are in the same physical vicinity as Roy. The sentence structure, inflection, and mistakes, tend to be a bit different from Roy's. Anyway, just enough to not put complete stock on 'IP' addresses.
That is why I have never used the 'IP' address for banning a member on my own forum, because it also punishes the possible innocent as well. And Roy is still innocent until proven guilty, so definitely nailing him for the antics of perhaps others would not be fair to Roy. And I am using the definition of 'fairness' as "Equality before the law", not some other pie-in-the-sky definition.
I'm still going to do business with Roy, and order a kit from him, most likely today. The kits are legitimate, and barring future events, are proven reliable. They may not be the very best money can buy, but anyone with common sense will take advertisement with a grain of salt, and continue on.
In truth, I suspected 'Jeffrey689' of perhaps being Chinese, because some of the sentence structure on one or two posts were just the kind that someone from the Orient would make. My first impulse was to find the 'IP' button and check for the location of the address. But of course I don't have that particular button available, so I just kept my eyes open and watched things unfold.
But here is a Fact: Roy is innocent until proven guilty. And if we punish him and he really is telling the truth, that is something we are the guilty party, not him.
I would suggest that a period of Probation be handed out, and leave it to him to work harder in order to rebuild it. That means he will have to work diligently, or he will be out of luck here, and at other sites. There is a lot at stake here, and I sincerely hope Roy(whatever your real name is) will understand just what a financial position he is in.
One thing Roy, and others over in China, really need to understand, along with the importance of honesty, is that unless this person has lived in the US, Canada, Ireland, or other British possessions, he will eventually be discovered and exposed. Chinese, like Japanese, is totally opposite of how English is structured, and one little slip is all that is needed to expose one's self.
I have a member on my forum, who has perfect English, has lived in the US for over twenty-five years, and his composition is almost beyond reproach. Almost, but not totally, because on one post he slipped up and left out an article in one of his sentences. And having studied Russian history and culture, I immediately keyed in on it, and sure enough, he is a Russian professor, who left Russia before the fall of peace loving Socialist Republic. See I dropped an article there.
My guess is that should Roy be earnest and really want to establish his reputation, he will take this to heart, and go out of his way to make up for any transgressions made by (you fill in the possibilities).
I'm sure Roy will read this, so I have a suggestion for you. Be forthcoming, and work as hard to preserve your reputation as humanly possible. Because once it is tainted, it is ten times harder to regain it than maintain it. I'm a Citadel graduate, and have taken its honor system with me during the rest of my life. If given the choice in telling someone the truth, or what I think others want to hear, I will always chose the former. Oh sure, they may be pissed off at me up front, but they certainly will get over it, because the truth is always the truth. But if they discover I have lied, they will Really be pissed off, and they won't forget the deception. Its just not worth it, Period!
Anyway, for what its worth, I vote we live by the code of "doveryai, no proveryai"(trust but verify), and let Roy have a chance to pass or fail on his own virtue, or lack thereof.

The fact is that:
diyroger , sillicontube and Jeffrey689 have all posted from IP addresses in common with siliconray at some point or other. Some further investigation will be done. Jeffery689 mostly posted from a different address not in common (VPN?) Most of siliconray's IP's do not have reverse lookup addresses.

"Beyond reasonable doubt" is a very high standard only used for criminal offenses. For civil offenses you only need "preponderance of evidence", which is a much lower standard. SY has more than enough preponderance.

SY did the right thing by alerting the members that there "seemed" to be Sock Puppets pumping Siliconray in order to drum up business. However, the bottom line is that has anyone bought anything from Siliconray (the store) and felt that they have been cheated upon e.g. items purchased are different from the descriptions on their website, money sent but no delivery, poor quality products that last for abnormally short period of time? So far, I have not seen any reports/posts from any members complaining about bad business transactions involving Siliconray.
I want to make myself clear that I am not condoning the business practice of using Sock Puppets to promote business and I am not trying to defend Siliconray. Personally, the Sock Puppets posts do not have much influence on my purchase decision. They are not exactly feedbacks on EBay. But then even feedbacks on EBay can fail you sometimes. Hey, doing business transactions on the Internet always carry certain degree of risks. I have bought from Siliconray and the items arrived in a timely manner and the goods looked OK. For the price they charged, I have no complains. My queries were always reponded promptly, unlike some other vendors that are doing business on this forum.

No Lo_Tse, I'm sure you aren't under suspicion. Your join-up date pretty much dispels that. But every once in a blue moon, somebody sets multiple identities ahead of time, and then uses them selectively, but that takes a lot of planning.
Oh, that reminds me of something funny. I was on a forum around eight-nine years ago, where something totally out of the ordinary occurred. One of the members left the country to go on vacation. That was before smart phones, and cheap laptops were still a bit rare.
Shortly after leaving, his identity started posting on the forum, slow at first, but adding as it went. And each post became a bit stranger, and off in left field, as it went along. Soon, he had the forum in a total uproar, and the moderator staff was besides themselves. The posts were from somebody who was a natural clown/ham, and could have been a professional stand-up comedian.
Well, when the vacationing member returned, he had been suspended, and was in deep doodoo. After a lot of emails shooting back and forth, come to find out, his neighbor had been responsible for keeping and eye on the house, and going inside to make certain everything was safe and ok.
The vacationing member had things set up so he automatically signed in by reaching the forum site, and the neighbor had been hearing the member talk about things on that particular forum. So, while the member was on vacation, he went in and had a field day pulling one prank after another. It took a good while for the vacationing member to get himself set back up. I have a friend who most definitely did receive a kit from siliconray about a month ago here in Massachusetts so he really does have tangible product, and yes I've seen the boards.
I'm expect he'll right it whatever the issue. China Post airmail is the most reliable means of getting things from China and HK in my experience.
this is nothing compared to my shipment of tubes out of moscow, it took 8months to get to my doorstep, i have given up....i was happy it got thru in the end.....
