I'm thinking to put volume pots and rotary selector close to the rear panel of my preamp. I've read that I can use a shaft extender made of either a rod, stainless steel tubing or plastic tubing. But, the problem is the front panel where I will install the knob. How can I mount the extender at the front panel "tightly but rotating freely"? Any thoughts on this?
There is also a special sleeve bearing mounting accessory that lets you run the extension through the panel with no rattle and good feel.

Eric.
Or plastic washer with 0.25" inside diameter from Home Depot.
