Good news!

But it is still very strange from Mr. Römer not to answer a customer phone call or email.

Harry

Update - Great news:

As mentioned, I received the panels from Shackman and Mr. Romer followed up with email to check if I was happy with the panels - he explained that the delay was caused by a brief illness.

Now that Mr. Romer is back, he has answered all my questions regarding the rebuilt Quad ESL 63 and has demontrated extensive knowledge on ESL's - I look forward to trying the panels and to continue doing business with the Shackman firm.

Hello,

Has anyone had contact with the Shackman ESL site;

Reromanus Shackman Electrostatic Loudspeakers Online Catalogue

Back in the fall of 2009, I corresponded with the owner of the site to get some of my Quad ESL 63 panels rebuilt - now, I can't get hold of the owner and am still waiting for my panels.

I tried phoning and sending emails.

Perhaps the owner is ill or the site is no longer supported.

Thanks for any information.

Greg

Just to provide a bit more information regarding the above original thread - as noted in the previous post, I received the panels and our deal involved a trade for the rebuilt panels, thus the amount of time I waited for the panels was quite fair.

In closing, I look forward to dealing with the Shackman ESL site in the future.

I'm glad to see you had this 180 degree change of hart. I wish more people could say the same about Shackman.

These are pictures from a pair of Quad ESL that have been refurbished by Reiner Romer. According to the owner he had to wait one year to get his speakers back. They worked for a while then they started to make humming, buzzing and rattling sounds. I let the pictures speak for themselves.

I have seen that two pictures are missing in this link (especially the one where the diaphragm is stretched with the help of a spring balance). See attachment.

Working with 3 micron film is tricky. Try these clamps. They are looking slightly different than the European ones, but should be the same.

Hi Harry
When stretching using the spring ballance, what pulle do you aim fore?
I guess it depends on the film thickness but say for either 3 or 6 mu film ...
I love the jig :D

I haven't changed my mind about Mr. Römer. No 180 degree turn. His "fabulous" VLC07 coating for the Esl-63 (actual price is Euro 59.-), is still lying around on my workbench. So if anyone is interested, I will ship it for free worldwide.

Yes, it depends on the thickness of the film. The thinner the film, the more tension you will need. Using the spring balance, 2.5 kg is a good starting point. Don't use more, because the film will rip easily. Better to go around a few times until really ALL the tapes have the same tension (because when tensioning one tape, the ones next to it will relax a bit).

Hello
I tried to purchase some panel material from SHACKMAN ESL.

Here is 8 weeks of emails about 16 times between myself and Romer.

FINALLY GOT IT FROM ROB AT ER AUDIO, DOWN UNDER.

It is not on a roll. Only folded sheets of exactly 2100mm by 1600mm.
On roll possibly end of 2013, when our actual stock is empty.
