Has anyone tried 11.x volt transformer used for halogen 12V lamps for the car amp.
I think they should be cheap and easy to get.

500W work lights are powered directly from the mains.

Halogen transformers are only for small 20W spotties.

Have seen 5Amp rated ones and are very slim like the old ballasts of tube lights.

he rewired it and added some caps and it works. why wouldnt it? it switches ac to dc 12v which is what car amps run off of. Just check it out

Where do you touch your tongue on this to test for continuity?

Here's my rewound xformer. Last time I checked, it put out 2x27.5V with 124V on the primary. That's going to get used for an amplifier soon. I did 2x25 turns of 14 guage solid wire. The fit is so tight that I had to force the last 10 turns into the holes. BTW, the scratches on the core are from me cutting off the secondary with a hacksaw.

so you have 2 pairs of wires respun as your secondarys? and it pushes 27v dc on each 1?

2 secondaries that put out 27v ac each, so it should give me at least +/- 35v dc.

You run the ac thru a rectifier. I'll be getting a few of those shortly. I haven't tested it yet, so I don't know how much current it's pushing out.

IIRC you have to get a bunch of glass pickling jars, aluminum plates and some Lye solution.

12V at 20A is only 240W, a microwave oven transformer is rated about 1000W - so there's no problem as far as size is concerned!.
