I bought Aimee Man and Madeleine Peyroux (both MFSL vinyl) and indeed, they sound superior. It’s a different kind of music to compare with the ECM type Jazz records I own and qualify as one of the best but I’d classify the former as warmer and the ECM as more analytic.
Again, hard to compare.
One thing I noticed is that vinyl tends to sound different over the years. Older recordings often have more pronounced highs (sometimes on the border of harshness) while newer tend to have far more bass. I wonder if this has something to do with the pressing as the RIAA curve is - I think - unchanged for many years.
An example would be Nina Simone’s Sings the Blues (rather harsh sounding) and Tori Amos’s American Doll Posse (warmer, fuller and balder sound).
