For what these parts cost and the few minutes it takes to swap them I can't see the problem tbh

Don't give up so easily! So you just joined us here- welcome. You see, we all agree: install dip sockets and you can try all the opamps mentioned for a very small budget and let your ears in the context of your system decide. Just take your time assessing each one.
Instead I'm going to buy a Naim CD5i.
Man, you already replaced the electrolytics in there with good audio grade ones. No reason to stop. (you did that didn't you? I can't believe Sony would use nice electrolytics.)
Next up on my list would be to buy a schematic for it and figure out which resistors are really critical and replace them with high quality metal film types.
