I am making a power supply for a preamplifier. I need a 40 H choke at about 7-9 mA; however I cannot find chokes rated at this low milliamp range. Is there a mathematical or emperical relationship between choke inductance and current so that a choke rated for a greater current can be equally used? If so, what is the formula? I am aware that two 20 H chokes could be used, but I prefer to use a single choke.

Answers all those sorts of questions. However, if all you're pulling is a few mA, then you don't need a choke input filter anyway. With such a low current, a capacitor filter, either with just the "C" or a CRC will work just fine, won't take up so much space, and won't be so . $$$$$
