I guess the best is to ensure you have the clock distribution drawn on circuit diagram.

Some of these players have the clock looped from one IC to the other, which is a disatser

To rewire this correctly, you have to make sure to know what is clock input and output

Do you have schematics ?

Yes - I have the schematics - but I can't seem to attach an image here. I will send you an email - hopefully that is what you were suggesting above!!
