Seems to me that circuit once had another name....oh well, you can't have everything.
If you're getting 5A, chances are good that the voltage across the 390 Ohm load to the front end is too high. That would drive the output MOSFET (the one on the bottom) into some pretty serious conduction.
You'll need to check the rest of the components. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the front end MOSFETs is roasted.
