Thanks Tauro. I've considered it but the thing is the insulator has to be glass (it's a fretless instrument) and i'm not sure the electrode will respond well to pressure or force behind 0.4mm of glass + the string. But maybe I should give it a try, although what seduces me about the piezo system is that it could be entirely analog.
