No, not really. I think I'd better practice on the washing machine before tackling anything important.
Try and find an old scrap "anything" to practice on. ( Skip trawling) an old front panel off a VCR is perfect.
With a well tinned clean tip on the iron place the braid over the solder on the joint you want to undo. Apply the iron, don't be afraid to press a bit, you have to melt the solder via the braid, and as soon as that happens it get's "wicked up" by the braid. You can even APPLY a little fresh solder as you heat the braid and joint to help start it off. It's just practice, but best to try on something you can afford to make mistakes on.
