One more concern: the soldering of the wires to the speaker terminals. What's the best way to do that without melting the plastic pieces connected to the metal tab?
Skinny wire as mentioned by P10 will sink less heat away from the soldering site. Clean the tabs, use a good solder with flux core, a hot iron with a large enough tip (0.125" is OK) and be quick, but don't rush.
If you are good you can get away with no fold at all. I’m not always that good all the time, sometimes a single fold and a squessze is nice to hold it in place so you don’t need that “3rd” hand.
Enuff CAT5 can often be had for free by asking at the local computer store for scraps.
