AllenB, you amaze me! Surely you know pure silver when you see it? system7 is a class act. I don't use rubbish in my speaker experiments. :cheers:

It's an ashtray! Silver? Yeah right...
It is an ashtray. And it's silver. It's got a hallmark on the right if you look carefully. Blurry thing which is the maker, then a crown which I think is Sheffield, then a lion which means sterling silver and what looks like a U (date).

Electroplate doesn't have a hallmark, or at least nothing like that. That's how you know. Silver plate rubs off too. I couldn't swear to this but gold and silver always feels cold to the touch. Conducts heat well. Both quite soft too.

This is turning into the Antiques Roadshow... :eek:
