OP27. How good is it?

Ok, I left the resistors as is first, as it doesn't feel like I'm running on thin air....

Put in the recharged cell and what do ya know... its been playing just dandy for few minutes now.... You live you learn I guess,

Sounds like falling supply voltage was causing clipping of the output signal.

Nope, not feeling any heat, its only running off a 9v cell which I split in two rails and ground with 4k7 resistors..

Why you don't use two 9 Volts cells . +9 ,0 , -9 v?

With only one you only have +4,5,0,-4,5 volts and is a little to low for a op amp...

A minor point: I think it was TI that took over BB.

The OP27/37 were further developments of the OP07 IIRC, they were improved in DC offset and drift. The OP27/37generally are not so hot as to bandwidth and distortion.
If you use them in audio you may be totally satisfied, but if you look at the specs there are (much) better ones. For a price, indeed.

Could you give an example for a replacement for the OP27 or OPA627. I'm in the process of making the Elektor pre-amp and that pre-amp uses 4 x OP27.
