Hi Guys
I finished to upgrade the (6850-706) to a (6870-708)
In a few days I will compare the sound of my 6850 with a genuine (6870-708)
What I have made inside:
I change the two capacitor C905 C906 2200u/25v with Nichicon Fine Gold 2200/25v install another two C917 C918 near the old one because the PCB is the same like 6870, remove two tap and install another bridge rectifier D902. After that I install a new Vanguard TCXO 16.9344MHz 0.3ppm and remove the old quartz Vanguard Ultra precision Golden TCXO, 0.3ppm 16.9344MHz | eBay
I populate the pcb with the exact components like in 6870 including the OPTOCOUPLER
Install C969 C970=470u/50V Nichicon change the C967 C968 470u/50v with Nichicon change the C955 954 4700/25v with 4700/35V also Nichicon Fine Gold.
Change the C415 C416 220uf/25v with 470u/50v. The last capacitors change was C461 C462 470u/25V with new Nichicon 470/50v bypass with VISHAY ROEDERSTEIN - MKP18374 0.1u/160v.

Soon I will make test between Onkyo 6850 upgraded vs 6870 vs CEC TL51XR vs Yamaha CD S2000.
I will post here the results (my opinion).
Best regards

Hi
Yes i finished the upgrade. The results are very good.
I do not know who made the change in sound more the capacitors or the clock. I like the sound of the cd player now. A few day ago a friend bring me a stock 6850. Using a pair of Sennheiser HD595 i made a quick test . The modified cd player sound is very good. The sound is more natural the voices are better, deep bass and very soft but present highs
If you want photos tell me

thanks for sharing.
i also tried a better clock than the DX-706. i think it improved the sound. i've done no major cap or op amp changes though. what i'd really like is to change to different DACs (i have some AD1862 that I'd like to use), but that would be work i don't have time for yet.
maybe when i retire ...
