Im looking for a source of chassis ,19" width, 2" high approx and atleast a 6u to 8u rack mountable steel front plate. I'd like to start designing my next amp for a studio rack.
If anyone knows of a source or sees one in their internet travels let this thread know.
Thanks

Perhaps you'd be better off with a 17 inch wide chassis that will fit through the rack opening. I've made several rack mounted electronics and always used eighth inch aluminum panels. You will also probably need side support pieces of either aluminum or steel to prevent the chassis from bending down backwards when mounted in the rack. These can be purchased, self made or salvaged from scrap commercial equipment.
I started a rack mountable 100 WPC stereo tube amp about a year an a half ago using a chassis from Landfall Systems. The chassis is heavy enough to drive a truck over...literally. I used a steel front panel mounted to the front extrusion with 1/4 inch bolts and it holds the weight of the transformers just fine, but extra bracing might be needed if the amp is going into a road case.
Sadly the amp was never finished since I lost my job and then moved 1200 miles. I will not have a lab for 6 months or so, but the amp is on my short list to finish.
See this thread. A few pictures are in post #23
