Yeah, takes a while to get one's head around how a sigma-delta DAC works; means many folks never get there. A more interesting question is probably why the 2x4's noise floor isn't shaped; if it's all moved out past the 300kHz measurement bandwidth that's somewhat impressive. Did you happen to note which DACs the 2x4 and 2x8 were using? Last I checked the 2x4 was an ADAU1701 and there was one mention of the 2x8 using a CS42528.
