This system is the culmination of many months work all initiated upon seeing a pile of large horns poking out of a campus dumpster.

The high frequency drivers are altec model 288c. They are mounted to 450hz pine tractrix horns.

jigsawn, each ring. Then glued and smoothed with a rasp. I dont want to do it ever again. Of course tha means that my next set will be carbon fiber...
These speakers are a great compromise

One mod done, and one in the works. The main one was that I covered the dust cap with felt. I used a water soluble glue stick so the mod is rediulously easy to undo. I found that this smoothes out this driver's roll off to an extreme degree. This makes the woofer play up to 500 quite well. I find that the outer aluminum cone is sufficiently damped by the surround. The second mod is more of a fix. I find that the tinsel leads may be stressed at their boundary with the spider so I indent to shoot some hotglue on that area to reinforce them.

yes, the vinyl gods have been very very kind to me. I had and uncle with a very cool taste in music and have been keeping my eyes pealed! I love that fact that I can pick up used vinyl locally for so cheap 3 to nine bucks a record. That makes impulse music buying possible!

You wanna talk about heavy, back when I was running a sub and two sats, I used a bogan SS pa amp that I also found in a campus dumpster for the subwoofer. It had probably a 25 lb opt. It was a beast. You are very observant and correct, the adcom should be below, but it is shallower than the other stuff! so my current system of using tuna fish cans to separate equipment would not work... : )

I would be very impressed with any sytem successfully mounted especially with a plasma screen! Someday I hope to have a projector shining on a screen the size of my window. That will be the day!

I'm impressed, really cool implementation Edgar Horn style horn with those Altec 288, lots of work for sure..

I'm frankly envious, great wood working skills, and dumpsters full of audio gold to pick though. Check out the price of mint 288's on eBay sometime and you'll see exactly what I mean. :D :D

This set up screams tubes dude!

Kudo's on your system, I remember few in college who pulled it together quite as well in my day, and certainly not me. Solid start in DIY at 15, but with money and time believed for a while that the manufacturers could do it better. I now know a lot better. ;)

The system consists of

Tower speakers now as the one's in the picture were on loan to see if liked them or not. I did like them but still needed a tweeter, i set one on top and was happy.

Right now i'm running my 2.5 way towers and 4 aleph mini a's and a sony cd-player with a passive volume pot. Sound ? Well TO ME it sounds perfect i have a few things to change and new speakers to build but it all takes time. Im working on a buffer volume pot for this project tho.

that poor nad receiver, you need to make a rack:D

slow cooker;)
