I'm trying to make my last interconnect and maybe using the wrong cable for my S/Pdif to xlr to my new DCX2496. I have RG6 cable and cannot for the life of me get the shield to tin to the 1pin. Am I on the wrong cable for this?
People usually crimp RG6 connectors. Crimping is also recommended over soldering if the cable is carrying a high frequency signal, which SPDIF should count as.
Perhaps you can use RG59, which uses copper for shield.
