I had a SRPP with 6SL7,and later 6SN7 sounded quite good, but when i changed to 6S4PEV and CCS,man what a differenceRyssen, thanks for the vote on the 6S4PEV.
Arnoldc...
Have you tried a "U-follower"?
I have a 6sl7-2A3... this past week I removed the ss ccs and tested the amp as SRPP and then as a U-follower.
For my ears:
dont like srpp at all..
6sl7 in parallel with a 10M45 CCS (see tubelab.com) sounds great, I just decided to go NO SS
The U-follower sounds best to me... built it right out of the Morgan Jones book.
330 V (right off B+)
1K top cathode
1M (to top grid, from junction of top cathode R and bottom plate R)
15K bottom plate
1K bottom cathode
Botttom cathode, -1.2V 1.2mA
1V input = 55V output
heater @ 91 vdc
I working on a 6sl7 U-follower / 2A3-40W for my next amp

Try to connect the output on the top of the current setting resistor instead of the plate of the tube.
That way, you will enjoy low output impedance. (more like SRPP but with good sound)
that worked very well in my 6j1/el84 amp...
keep us posted.

sgerus or anyone,
does anyone have a schematic for this? i haven't read morgan jones' book. i'm ignorant with regards this.

That's just about what I have... however I do not have an R1.
Without R1, you have the same current flowing through both valves...
that makes this really easy to set up.
Just a side note: Comparing the mu-follower to the 10m45 CCS setup I started with, there seems to be less hum (actual sound level) at the speakers with the mu-follower.
