I'm entertaining the idea of going dipole and rigidly affixing the drivers to a 10mm (60 x 18") sheet of lead. The sheet of lead will weigh around 175lbs and should have a resonance below 10hz (fyi lead for a given thickness is 95 times better at diminishing sound transmission through its medium than plywood). Since the lead will mass dampen any resonances, the choice of a nice wood or veneer adhered to the lead seems to be an excellent choice for aesthetics.
What is your favorite veneer/wood if you could use any (discounting its resonant behavior)?
