Frank Zappa - "Watermelon in Easter Hay" from Joe's Garage ptIII
Possibly one of Frank best guitar solo tracks, maybe not so depressing but more as enveloping feelings of loss or sadness.
Used in the ending sequence of the film "Y Tu Mama Tambien"
was also listened to repeatedly during the development of the screenplay.

in the 80s I was given a compilation that I lent and was lost. Anyway it had a song that went like
"when you get out from the hospital, let me back into your arms"
Was a very dark song about a guy whos girl friend is ina coma cos of his driving I think. Does anybody know this song and who wrote it? Songs like this are good for perspective sometimes

Entire album => Walk across the Rooftops by the Blue Nile!
Friend of mine had this album (put out by Linn records), which unfortunately like so many 'audiophile' records was extremely well recorded but was so bl**dy morose that I was wishing for it all to end before the first track was over!
Oh yeah - The downward spiral by Nine inch Nails - totally suicidal.
-Len.

Apart from the whole album, The Bed on Berlin, Lou Reed.
Funny, a Lou Reed song came to mind for me, too---Perfect Day, in this case, which I find depressing mostly because of the ties to the movie Trainspotting.
